Registration INformation
Indiana’s primary election will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Primary elections are when voters help choose which candidates from each political party will appear on the ballot in the general election later in the year. In Vanderburgh County, voters will decide nominees for offices ranging from local government positions to state and federal races.
If you plan to vote in the primary, the first step is making sure you’re registered to vote in Indiana.
How to check your voter registration status:
You can check whether you’re registered to vote online through the Indiana Secretary of State’s voter portal.
1. Visit IndianaVoters.in.gov
2. Click ‘Check Your Registration Record’
3. Verify your information is accurate
Checking early is important. If your registration information is outdated - for example, if you’ve moved - you may need to update it before the election.
How to register to vote:
If you are not currently registered to vote in Indiana, you must register before the state’s voter registration deadline in order to participate in the primary.
In Indiana, voter registration for the 2026 primaries will close on Monday, April 6.
To register:
1. Check eligibility requirements of Indiana
2. Visit IndianaVoters.in.gov
3. Click ‘Register to Vote’
4. Fill out the form with your accurate information
