Our Mission
Building Civic Infrastructure for Evansville
Communities function best when residents can access reliable information about local decisions and institutions.
But local journalism across the country continues to shrink.
As newsroom resources decline, fewer reporters are available to attend meetings, review public records, explain complicated policy decisions, and connect local issues to everyday life.
NewsLab was created to help address those gaps in Evansville. We’re doing that through collaboration rather than competition, working with local media partners to strengthen the systems through which our community stays informed.
Our Partners
Our Times Newspaper is a longstanding community newspaper serving Evansville’s Black community. NewsLab collaborates with Our Times on the Recorders initiative, Civic Signals, and broader civic information efforts.
WNIN Tri-State Public Media partners with NewsLab on The Long View podcast and broader public-interest storytelling efforts.
Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library supports public access to information, civic learning, and the long-term vision for accessible civic archives.
The University of Evansville is the home of the Evansville NewsLab, which operates as a ChangeLab course in the Univesity’s Center for Innovation & Change. UE also provides institutional support, student involvement, and operational infrastructure for NewsLab.
